1951 Lincoln Cosmopolitan

Lincoln Navigator

1949 was significant to the Ford and Lincoln lines due to the introduction of the 1949 Ford and the 1949 Mercury Eight, which became very popular with customizers who created "Lead sleds" from it. All were brand new bodies.

The Cosmopolitan featured a four-speed Hydramatic automatic transmission supplied by General Motors or a base three-speed manual and a 5.5 liter (337 cubic inch) 152 hp V8[5] as well as an "aerodynamic" hood ornament.

Like the Continental of the 1960s, the Cosmopolitan featured suicide doors, which opened from the B-pillar. In 1949, new coil springs were added to the front. The headlights and tail lights on the Cosmopolitan reflected a new styling trend appearing on customized vehicles called "frenching" where various items were recessed into the bodywork.

When it was restyled in 1952, it was paired with a new full-sized model named the Lincoln Capri. The engine was replaced with the new OHV 317 cu in (5.2 L) Lincoln Y-Block V8. Front leg room was 42 inches (1,067 mm). Bodies were brand new again. Powered by the 317 cu in (5.2 L) Lincoln Y-block V8, Lincolns won the top four spots in the Stock Car category of the Pan American Road Race in both 1952 and 1953. In 1954 (its final year) Lincolns took first and second place.

Porsche Macan

The 2013 Cayman wasn’t the only brand new Porsche spotted testing by Toldi recently. The Macan compact SUV was also spotted out for a nighttime stroll, and this video tells us a few of its secrets.

The first statements from Porsche suggested the Macan was something amazing and sport, but it’s clearly not that at all. This prototype sounds like a softly tuned Audi TDI V6, not the sexy tiger ready to pounce on unsuspecting sportscars.

The Porsche 911

In fact, the Macan is built on a borrowed platform, with engines borrowed from Audi and styling borrowed from the Cayenne. We’re sure Stuttgart engineers have made it into a real Porsche, but it’s nothing more than a gap filler. Much like the Cayman was designed to be worse at everything than the 911, so too will this be slower than a Cayman, but cheaper as well. And while the Cayman is mid-engined unlike the 911, this has no redeeming features. Even its hot “Turbo” version will be a V6.

Of course, if you’re a Porsche stock owner, the Macan looks like a golden nugget, since it’s expected to double the company’s sales in the next five years, from 118,867 deliveries in 2011 to more than 200,000 in 2018.

2013 Porsche 911 Carrera 4/4S Coupe/Cabriolet

Maserati Quattroporte 2013

2013 Maserati Quattroporte

New Maserati Quattroporte - 2013 Maserati Quattroporte

Well that didn't take long at all. Although we just saw spy shots of the new Maserati Quattroporte last week, Maserati has now taken the wraps off its redesigned sedan ahead of a confirmed Detroit Auto Show debut. Although no official details for the car were released just yet, we can infer quite a few changes just from the images. Celebrating 50 years of the Quattroporte, Maserati is referring to this new car as a 2013 model, but it will arrive next year for the 2014 model year in the US. The overall exterior styling of the new Quattroporte hasn't evolved too far away from the current car.
There is still the sloping hood, vented fenders and shapely body lines, but it also gets a much sleeker roofline and more steeply raked front glass. It also appears that the rear wheels no longer cut into the rear doors, suggesting a longer wheelbase.
carscoop.blogspot
The biggest change made to the car's styling is found in the rear of the car where horizontal taillights and exhaust tip design now gives it a strong Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG vibe. Inside, the four-passenger sedan now gets a more stylish two-tier instrument panel, a larger touch-screen display on the center stack and what looks to be equally sized monitors for the rear-seat entertainment system. Under the hood, we can definitely tell that the Quattroporte still uses a V8, but aside from the press release calling it an "all-new next generation powertrain," we don't have any real details of what powers the car. Or do we? The rear 3/4 image of the new design shows a license plate number of "QP 530 HP" possibly suggesting the engine's output has been raised to 530 horsepower up from the current 425. We are also expecting a supercharged V6 at some point down the line with an output of around 420 hp, and it is likely that both engines will be paired to eight-speed automatic transmissions.

The Maserati Quattroporte is a luxury four-door saloon made by Maserati in Italy. The name translated from Italian literally means "four doors". There have been five generations of the car, each separated by a period of roughly seven years.

Quattroporte I

In the early 1960s, Maserati's reputation was at a high. With growing sales, Prince Karim Aga Khan ordered a special Maserati 5000 WP, chassis no. 103,060, designed by Pietro Frua. The following year, Maserati showed the first-generation Quattroporte of 1963, which bore a striking resemblance to the earlier drawing. While the design was by Frua, construction was carried out by Vignale.

Quattroporte II
In 1974, at the Turin Show, Maserati presented its Quattroporte II (AM 123)[6] on an extended Citroën SM chassis, available since Citroën had purchased the Italian company. It had sparse and slick Bertone bodywork, penned by Marcello Gandini and fashionable at the time, and was the only Maserati Quattroporte to feature hydropneumatic suspension and front wheel drive.

Quattroporte III/Royale
Considered a "business man's Maserati," the Quattroporte III was presented by newly empowered Maserati chief Alejandro de Tomaso and his design staff in 1977. This was a rear wheel drive car, powered by a large V8 engine. It was important to de Tomaso that there be an Italian vehicle to compete with the recently launched Mercedes-Benz 450SEL 6.9. The Quattroporte III marked the last of the hand-built Italian cars. All exterior joints and seams were filled to give a seamless appearance.

Quattroporte IV
The Quattroporte IV from 1994 was a restyled and updated version of the 430, the four-door version of the Biturbo coupe. It was designed by Marcello Gandini, also known for penning the Lamborghini Countach, Urraco, Espada, Miura, Lancia Stratos, and Bugatti EB110. The new car was smaller, very aerodynamic (0.31 cd), and featured Gandini's trademark angular rear wheel arch.

Quattroporte V
In 2004, Maserati started production of the Pininfarina-designed Quattroporte, with the same dry sump 4.2 L engine as the Coupé, Spyder and the new GranTurismo but improved to 400 PS (294 kW). Due to its greater weight than the Coupé and Spyder, the 0-62 mph (0–100 km/h) time for the Quattroporte is 5.6 seconds and the top speed is 167 mph (269 km/h).[11] The Quattroporte was unveiled to the world at the Frankfurt Motor Show on September 9, 2003 and made its US première at the 2003 Pebble Beach Concours d'Élégance.

2013 Audi A6

A6 is the smaller of Audi's two midsize cars (the other is the hatchback A7). It's made in Germany and competes against the BMW 5-Series, Infiniti M, Lexus GS, and Mercedes-Benz E-Class.

Audi redesigned A6 for the 2012 model year. For 2013, the lineup will expand to include a 4-cylinder model with all-wheel drive (previous 4-cylinder A6s were front-drive only). The high-performance S6 also returns, and we cover that in a separate report.

All A6 models, dubbed 2.0T and 3.0T, come in a single Premium trim level with standard leather upholstery, 8-way power front seats, driver-seat memory, wood interior trim, power sunroof, and a cooled glovebox. All-wheel drive A6s include heated front seats, a feature which is optional on front-drive versions. Many options are available in packages. Premium Plus includes front- and rear-obstacle detection, LED daytime running lights, navigation system, rearview camera, Audi Connect assistance, keyless entry/engine start, music hard drive, HD Radio receiver, and xenon headlights. The Sport Package includes a sport suspension, steering-wheel shift paddles, and either 19- (2.0T) or 20-inch (3.0T) wheels on performance tires. The Cold Weather Package includes heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, and for the front-drive 2.0T, heated front seats. Several packages are exclusive to the 3.0T. Prestige includes rear dual-zone automatic climate control, a power tilt and telescopic steering wheel, ventilated front seats, Bose-brand audio system, steering-linked adaptive xenon headlights, and unique trim. The Driver's Assistance Package includes blind-spot alert, adaptive cruise control, and a collision alert system. The Innovation Package includes the aforementioned assistance items plus front and rearview cameras, a head-up instrument display, adaptive cruise control, and night vision. Models with the Prestige Package can order a high-end Bang & Olufsen audio system.

The 2013 Audi A6 2.0T is available with front-wheel drive or Audi's quattro all-wheel drive. It's powered by a 211-horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine. Front-drive models have a continuously variable transmission (CVT) that behaves like an automatic. AWD models get a conventional 8-speed automatic transmission. The 3.0T has a 310-horsepower 3.0-liter supercharged V6 that pairs with an 8-speed automatic transmission. It's AWD only.

EPA estimated fuel economy for the front-drive 2.0T is 25 mpg city/33 mpg highway. Adding AWD reduces the 2.0T's rating to 20 city/30 highway. V6 models score 18 city/27 highway. All A6s require premium-grade gasoline. In Consumer Guide testing, A6 3.0T models averaged 22.1-23.2 mpg with slightly more highway driving than city use.

The 2013 Audi A6 includes a standard complement of expected and federally mandated safety features. Blind-spot alert is offered as part of an option package or as an a la carte extra. Other available safety features include rear-side airbags, a rear pre-collision system, night vision camera, and front and rearview cameras.
